Muslim Criminal Gang Brothers 4 Life regaining control in Goulburn Jail.

Brothers 4 Life on the rise again in Goulburn jail war

James Phelps
The Sunday Telegraph
October 11 2015.

THE BROTHERS 4 Life have emerged as one of the most violent and powerful gangs in the NSW prison system, waging a bloody war in jail for control of a multi-million dollar drug empire.

The crime outfit founded by convicted murderer Bassam Hamzy has turned on itself, with several high-profile members attempting to seize control of the gang from inside our toughest jails.

In a dramatic move to stop a recent spate of jail violence, Corrective Services has split the gang with the power-players removed from Goulburn jail and sent under top security to other NSW prisons.

“The Department has had to move all the bosses to stop them from killing each other,’’ said a Goulburn prison guard.

“The have been split up and sent to Lithgow, Long Bay, Goulburn, Nowra, and the Mid North Coast.’’

With at least 100 members locked up in NSW, Brothers 4 Life are one of the state’s biggest prison gangs.

Outlaw motorcycle gangs control still control the bulk of the prison drug trade with the Hell’s Angels running Long Bay Jail, the Comancheros and Bandidos controlling Lithgow and the Rebels strong in Goulburn, but Brothers 4 Life have a violent presence at every prison in NSW.

“The BFL are fighting with each other,’’ the officer said.

“They are trying to take control of the empire. Some have been moved out of the main jail in Goulburn and sent to the HRMU because of all the trouble. Others have been shipped across the state. All the chapters are fighting and trying to take the whole thing. Farhad Quami is fighting with Hamzy and so is (another notorious criminal).

“Hamzy is now locked away so tightly that he can’t effectively run things. He is still trying to dictate but this Quami is involved in everything”

“Hamzy is now locked away so tightly that he can’t effectively run things. He is still trying to dictate but this Quami is involved in everything.’’

Members of defunct bikie gang Notorious have patched over to Brothers 4 Life, boosting the outfit’s prison presence.

“The Notorious guys at Goulburn are getting there tattoos removed and are coming back and joining BFL,’’ said a Goulburn officer.

“There would be at least 100 of them in NSW jails and there would be five bickering chapters. There are 30 in Long Bay alone.’’

Long Bay Jail is regarded as a Hells Angels prison although former Notorious boss Sam Ibrahim is still a powerful jail enforcer.

“Whatever happens on the outside is mirrored in jail”

“The Ibrahims are quite powerful,’’ said a Long Bay guard.

“But Sam is about to get deported and Michael is in Nowra so that will change.’’

Goulburn Jail is considered to be controlled by the Rebels.

“Whatever happens on the outside is mirrored in jail,’’ a Goulburn officer said.

“Wars on the street become wars in jail. Also if you have drug raids on the outside we are also doing them on the inside too because they are all linked. The blokes in jail speak to their counterparts outside and it is all drugs, steroids and guns.

“Even operations on the outside can be run from jail because they smuggle in mobile phones. They is not much we can do about it. We tap phones and pass information onto police.

Prison gangs conduct jail standovers and drug deals.

“They get people to bring drugs in for them,’’ an officer said.

“They then get people to sell it for them. They also do standovers. They steal buy-ups (items inmates have purchased from the prison shop) and put it over people. We try and keep on top of it by moving them around and generally we keep them under control. The drugs they mainly deal in are steroids and buprenorphine.’’

Sydney's Occupied Territories :Labor Green Loon's VOTE People, Brothers 4 Life

Life inside the BLF Gang

Yoni Bashan, State Political Reporter
The Sunday Telegraph

His gang, Brothers 4 Life, which he founded and directed from the state's most secure prison, had lost its way.
Its members were flying off the handle on drugs and alcohol and straying from Hamzy’s fundamentalist Muslim ideology.

Catch Up : Sydney's Occupied Territories Muslim Crime Gang rounded up and bail refused

So in July 2012, he turned to underworld identity Farhad Qaumi, giving him instructions to clean up the gang and take it back to its roots.
Known as “The Afghan”, Qaumi and his cohorts had transformed themselves from the poor sons of immigrants living in Auburn to men who could hold their own with some of Sydney’s most wealthy, powerful and colourful identities.
On New Year’s Day, Qaumi was shot on board a luxury yacht as he rubbed shoulders with Kings Cross identity Adam Freeman, the son of organised crime figure George Freeman, and a number of other prominent figures, including some from the Italian underworld.
The party on board the Oscar II was believed to be a “send off” for Freeman, who is soon to be sentenced for his role in a $3 million commercial drug operation for which his co-accused was given a nine-year prison term.
The decision to recruit Qaumi to B4L would be the catalyst for a bloody and very public war for dominance within the group.
Instead of saving the gang, the decision would destroy it.

HIGH ROLLERS
THE Brothers 4 Life were an impenetrable force.
At the height of their presence in south western Sydney from late 2011, gang members were openly snubbing their noses at authorities, flashing their wealth and committing brutal, public acts of violence.
Unlike more sophisticated gangs, they were not interested in discretion.
Their Sydney leader, Mohammed Hamzy — nicknamed “Little Crazy” — got around in a $160,000 Mustang and kept a Range Rover in his driveway despite living in public housing and being on a disability support pension.
Another gang member sported an $80,000 Breitling watch, while others were regulars in the high-rollers room at The Star casino.
A 19-year-old newcomer was the registered owner of a luxury Audi Q7 even

VICTIM A
AS homicide investigators worked the Amood murder, the Middle Eastern Organised Crime squad was running a separate operation to profile the Brothers 4 Life.
Only vague details were known about them.
Questions remained: How vast is their membership? How do they communicate? Who is in charge? What cars do they drive?
What police needed was a source — a luxury they didn’t have. This would change on February 9, 2013.
A 24-year-old drug runner working for the gang arrived at Bankstown Hospital after being shot twice in the legs.
He was a “good kid playing crook”, police later said; he was not cut out for the lifestyle. Police convinced him to change his life and turn informant.
Today he is a Crown witness known as Victim A. He told police everything.

ENEMIES WITHIN
AS the Amood investigation continued, Bassam Hamzy was making plans from prison.
He had formed an alliance with Farhad Qaumi, who was on remand for a murder charge that was later dropped.

The officer who investigated Qaumi, Justin Harris, alleges he was recruited by Hamzy for a specific purpose.

“We became aware that he (Qaumi) and his family were developing links with Brothers 4 Life,” Mr Harris, now out of the NSW Police Force, said.
“He was recruited because of their internal conflicts.
“He (Bassam Hamzy) wanted to clean the gang up because he’d thought they’d lost their true calling in relation to their religion.”
When Qaumi, was acquitted, he re-entered western Sydney and set up the Blacktown B4L chapter, stacking it with fellow Afghans.

Police believe that among them were his two brothers, Mumtaz, 29, and Jamil, 21.
A power struggle emerged between the Blacktown and the Bankstown chapter, controlled by Hamzy’s cousin, over a lucrative Blacktown drug territory.
One version of events is that a man controlling the drug turf, receiving protection from the Bankstown crew, was being stood over by Blacktown B4L members.

It prompted a series of shootings and retaliation, causing the gang to cannibalise itself. Instead of fighting other gangs, they were killing and maiming themselves.
On October 31, the game changed with the death of Mahmoud Hamzy outside his
cousin Mohammed’s home at Revesby Heights.

Near nightly reprisals followed. At one stage, a 13-yearold girl became collateral damage when a shotgun was fired into her home, targeting her brother.
Police, behind the scenes, began using the rift as leverage and were planning their own attack.

On November 7, homicide detectives and officers from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) mounted co-ordinated arrests which knocked out the Bankstown chapter and a portion of the Blacktown membership, including Qaumi’s younger brother Jamil.
After 12 months, Mohammed Hamzy was charged over the murder of Yehye Amood while members of his senior leadership were charged over the kneecapping of Ali.
The move meant the end of B4L’s mother chapter at Bankstown — a major win for police.
The matter of Qaumi, however, still had to be resolved.

THE ROSE BAY WHARF SHOOTING
IT was a who’s who of gangland characters.
There was Farhad Qaumi, his brother Mumtaz and another man, Fawad Bari, an alleged
member of their Blacktown B4L chapter.

They were there on the Oscar II yacht with a bevy of girls and, to the surprise of many, a small group of Italians, all to “send off” Kings Cross identity Adam Freeman. Freeman, who last September pleaded guilty to drugs charges in court, is awaiting sentence and reliable sources have confirmed he was on the boat and the party was in his honour.
The night was going well until the vessel attempted to dock at Rose Bay.
A hidden gunman opened fire, hitting Qaumi in the shoulder as he sat with his back to a window.

It can now be revealed those behind the hit are suspected of being on board the yacht at the time and had been using social media to coordinate with the gunman on dry land.

It’s understood the owners of the prestigious yacht are now considering changing its name due to the incident.

THE ARRESTS
ON Wednesday, police swooped on Blacktown chapter boss Qaumi and effectively brought an end to the Brothers 4 Life gang.

His arrest, along with his brother Mumtaz, was described by officers as “cutting off the head of the snake” of the gang.
Both were charged with directing the activities of a criminal group, along with drugs and firearm possession offences.

It was MEOCS officers from Strike Force Sitella who made the arrests — they had been investigating the Blacktown chapter and six shootings, plus an assault, since mid-last year.
Five guns have been seized and ballistics has already linked some to other crimes, MEOCS commander Deb Wallace said.

Questions remain as to whether recent unsolved hits will match the weapons, including the murder of Joe Antoun at Strathfield in December, the near-identical slaying of his business partner Vasko Boskovski in July, or the B4L-linked murder of Mahmoud Hamzy at Revesby Heights.
With the bosses of both Bankstown and Blacktown chapters behind bars, the future of the group appears over.

Labor Green Loon VOTE People : "I'm a tourist not a terrorist," Mr Biber, of Merrylands, in Sydney's west " aka Sydney's Occupied Territories

'I'm a tourist ... not a terrorist': Merrylands man posts happy snaps on Facebook after anti-terror raids

Yoni Bashan State Politrical Reporter
The Sunday Telegraph
December 7,2013

A MAN allegedly recruited from Sydney to fight in the Syrian civil war has declared himself a "tourist" not "a terrorist".

Mehmet Biber, 21, one of six men allegedly sent to fight in Syria with rebel forces, posted happy snaps and a message to friends after raids by anti-terror authorities in Sydney on Tuesday.

"I'm a tourist not a terrorist," Mr Biber, of Merrylands, in Sydney's west, wrote beside four photographs of various landmarks which indicate he is in Istanbul, Turkey.

The posting was prompted after his name emerged during a bail hearing for alleged ringleader Hamdi Alqudsi, 39, who was arrested in the raids.

Police allege Biber was one of several men sent by a network of individuals, lead by Alqudsi, to "engage in armed hostilities" in Syria.

Biber's earlier postings from late October indicate time spent in Syria. They include pictures of bombed out buildings, injured children and a dead aid worker. A video uploaded from a mobile phone shows rebel forces firing at a helicopter.

He has also previously quoted the deceased US-born Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who had been described by NSW counter terror chief Peter Dein as one of the most dangerous men in the world.

Biber's family claim he left Australia to go on holiday.

Police have also identified links between Biber and members of the street gang Brothers For Life. One of those gang members, Hicham Ismail, is on remand facing sentencing next year for a brutal assault.

That link is one of several that have emerged between Sydney's religious Islamic community and the BFL street gang.

Other links have also been brought to light through the work of a police taskforce known as Strike Force Maloney, which has been investigating an attempted murder outside a sex club at Rydalmere on May 1.

One man charged with the alleged shooting is Osama Sarwat Toffic, identified by police as an associate of the BFL gang.

Toffic was arrested as he tried to board a flight for Germany, en route to Turkey, on November 15.

Police will allege Wassim Fayad, 46, a figurehead during last year's Muslim riots, assisted Toffic to leave Australia.

Fayad has been charged with being an accessory to the attempted murder, along with two other men, including Wesam Hamze, 29, a first-cousin to BFL founder Bassam Hamzy.

Hamzy, a follower of radical Islam, is presently in Supermax jail.

Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad Commander Deb Wallace said a number of BFL members had an interest in Islam, however their motives for crime were not based on religion.

"Certainly some arrested recently have been more involved in Islam but it's not because of that they are involved in criminal activity," Det Supt Wallace said.

"There have been cases where they might say a particular crime is based on religious reasons, but that to me is an excuse."

While the BFL leadership were weakened a series of arrests last month, one issue remaining for police is the emergence of its Blacktown chapter, which is stacked with Afghans and Middle Eastern recruits.

It is lead by a man who cannot be named, due to a court order, but he is known locally as "The Afghan".

He has beaten three separate murder charges and was recruited directly by Hamzy while in jail.

His younger brother was recently charged over the alleged shooting of rival BFL gang members during a drug turf war in Bankstown.

Washed Karimi, 18, also born in another Afghanistan, was charged in relation to that shooting. His older brother Mohammed Karimi is serving a minimum 30-years jail over the unrelated 2010 murder of security guard Kesley Burgess.

A third man charged over the Chokolatta shooting is Iranian Mobin Merzaei, 22.

He is the younger brother of Mesbah Merzaei, 25, who was charged over the attempted extortion of a smash repairer in North Sydney.

Det Supt Wallace said the recruitment of siblings was not a new trend.

"The idea is hopefully these young ones grow up and grow out," he said.

Sydney's Occupied Territories : Osama Sarwat Toffic arrested at Sydney Airport attempting to escape to Germany

Police arrest Brothers 4 Life gangster as he tries to flee Australia

Katherine Danks and Henry Budd
The Daily Telegraph
November 18, 2013

A BROTHERS 4 Life associate, who was arrested just before boarding a flight to Germany, has been charged with a shooting outside a Sydney sex club.

Police received a tip-off that Osama Sarwat Toffic, 19, was planning to leave Australia just hours before he was arrested at Sydney International Airport on Saturday night.

It's alleged Toffic was the gunman in the attack on Michael Rooke in the carpark of gay, bisexual and swingers club Aarows in Rydalmere on May 1.

The 52-year-old victim survived the attack after three bullets missed his heart and spine by centimetres and police say he was not linked to a criminal gang.

Toffic, of Auburn, has been charged with several offences including shooting with intent to murder, discharging a firearm with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, assault with intent to rob and the possession of a prohibited firearm.

He has also been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, destroying the car with fire in Granville and stealing a van in Harris Park.

Toffic did not apply for bail in Parramatta Bail Court yesterday and was remanded to appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.

Brothers for Life founder Bassam Hamzy 'used a woman posing as his lawyer to communicate with the outside world'

November 16 2013

BROTHERS 4 Life founder Bassam Hamzy allegedly communicated with the outside world from inside his Supermax prison cell through a woman who posed as his lawyer, Corrective Services authorities believe.

BACKYARD ARMS TRADER FOR BIKIES

The legal secretary was allegedly given access to Hamzy this year but was recently banned from further visits.
Her presence allegedly enabled Hamzy to circumvent the otherwise tightly-controlled provisions placed on detainees at Goulburn Supermax prison that see inmates' food and mail screened.

Authorities believe Hamzy was able to use the legal visits to direct activity by the Brothers 4 Life crime gang.
Having shut down this line of communication, authorities do not believe Hamzy played any role in recent tit-for-tat violence among gang members that last month culminated in the fatal shooting of Hamzy's relative Mahmoud Hamzy at a home in Revesby Heights.

A reputable source also said other individuals given access to Bassam Hamzy under the guise of legal visits had also been banned from seeing him at Goulburn jail.
Although Hamzy's phone calls and correspondence are monitored, legal visits remain privileged, meaning they cannot be monitored and documents cannot be examined.

A department spokeswoman refused to be drawn on the matter when asked if an investigation had been launched.
"We won't comment on a security matter such as this," the spokeswoman said.
A spokeswoman for Attorney-General Greg Smith said he also could not comment.
It is understood an investigation determined Hamzy had been able to disseminate documents and messages through his "legal representatives", including the female secretary.

It is understood a broader investigation concerning prison visitors is still under way.
Hamzy is currently serving a 22-year sentence for murder over the 1998 shooting of Kris Toumazis outside a Darlinghurst nightclub.

Revesby Heights shooting leaves one man dead and another injured

The Daily Telegraph

THE man shot dead in another Sydney gun atrocity today has been named as Mahmoud Hamzy, a cousin of Bassam Hamzy, Australia's biggest gangster.

Hamzy has operated the notorious crime syndicate Brothers 4 Life from behind bars.

An al-Qaeda devotee, he was originally jailed for the 1998 shooting murder of Kris Toumazis outside a Sydney nightclub and was subsequently convicted for conspiring to murder a witness against him.

The dead man and his seriously injured mate were known associates of the Hamze crime gang called Brothers For Life, and were found in a lit-up and open garage suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Ten police cars swarmed on the newly built housing estate at Bardo Circuit, Revesby Heights, about 12.30am.

One man, shot twice in the head and neck as well as the stomach and back, died a short time later.

The other man, shot in the stomach and leg, was rushed by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital to undergo treatment.

The gunfire was heard by shocked local residents who called triple zero to report the shooting.

"I just heard pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop," a nearby resident, who didn't wish to be named, said.

"These guys (who live where the shooting happened) are always racing up and down the street in nice cars."

A young man pulled up to the crime scene around 7am in a silver Mustang with blue stripes down the middle and number plates that read MEOC ( the acronym for the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad) dressed in a blue, plastic forensic tracksuit.

This vehicle is registered at a Discounted  SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENT  RATE  Gee fancy that.

He was denied entry into the unit block by police and when asked by reporters what had happened he reportedly said it was "fireworks" and New Year's Eve had "come early" before getting back in the Mustang and driving off.

A neighbour said he was woken by the shooting in the recently built 40-odd unit complex and heard up to 10 shots fired and a car speeding off.

"Maximum 10 I believe, I am not sure I have never used weapons in my life. I would say it wasn't automatic because the space between wasn't automatic," he said.

"Of course I am concerned. I have only lived here two, three months and in two weeks I'll be out."

Sanjeev Kumar didn't hearing the shooting but the father of two said it was terrifying a man had been shot dead less than 100 metres from his Thomas St home next to the entrance to Bardo Circuit.

The accountant said there had been another shooting earlier in the year.

In that incident at 10.25pm on July 23 police said one shot had been fired in Bardo Circuit before three cars were seen to drive away from the area.

No one was injured and investigators were looking for a white Toyota Hilux utility or white Nissan Pulsar in the area at the time.

Mr Kumar said the police had been at the location in force previously.

"It definitely is (terrifying), it's very scary. About a month ago 10 police cars have come here, there has been a shooting in the past in Bardo Circuit a couple of shots had been fired before," he said.

"We moved in here a year ago and we really like the place because it is quiet. Most of them are like families and it's quite renowned for the schools."

Friends of the victims gathered at the crime scene before later meeting outside Liverpool Hospital where multiple police cars were parked.

Bankstown Police, along with detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, are investigating the shooting.

A crime scene was established with forensic officers arriving at 5am to examine the garage where a black Mercedes sports car as well as black and white utes were parked out the front.

Gang Hamzy family matriarch shot at home in Auburn

YONI BASHAN POLICE REPORTER
March 11, 2013 12:00AM

POLICE are bracing for an escalation in gangland violence after a matriarch of the infamous Hamzy crime family was shot four times at her front door yesterday.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the woman, an aunt to Supermax prison inmate Bassam Hamzy, was shot at point blank range in the legs as she opened the front door of her unit on Auburn Rd, Auburn, in a targeted and direct attack at 2.40pm.

Police have unofficially linked the shooting with another that occurred 20 minutes later, also in Auburn, when shots were fired at the house next door to that of convicted drug dealer Hakan Goktas, 39.

The main line of inquiry for both shootings is Goktas's co-operation with police when he was the victim of a road rage shooting last August.

Sydney's Occupied Territories: Muslims attack Police after shooting woman...

A police source said the victim of yesterday's first shooting was shot four times after opening the door of her unit, which has the letters "BFL" chalked on a wall outside, a reference to street gang Brothers For Life, of which her son is a member.

Police confirmed yesterday that Goktas's co-operation may be at the heart of the tit-for-tat violence.

His alleged attacker in the road rage incident was arrested in Queensland nine weeks later and extradited to Sydney.

The two shootings took place hours before revelations emerged in yesterday's The Sunday Telegraph that police were left shocked and angered after a senior member of the BFL gang was granted bail last week over a kneecapping at Bass Hill on February 9 this year.

Their 24-year-old victim in the case has gone into police protection after becoming a Crown witness and investigators fear the decision to grant bail may jeopardise his safety.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Arthur Katsogiannis said a review of that decision was being sought.

"All we can do is enforce the law and bring those responsible before the courts," Mr Katsogiannis told The Daily Telegraph.

"In relation to that decision, we'll be liasing with the DPP and seeking a review."
